OL Maxwell Iyama remains locked in on commitment to South Carolina

A handful of schools are still in contact with South Carolina tackle commitment Maxwell Iyama, but he’s not paying them any attention.
Before the V7 Elite Playmakers Showcase at Tennessee State University, the 6-foot-5, 299-pound 3-star prospect told SEC Country that he’s locked in on his commitment to the Gamecocks.
On April 2, Iyama committed to South Carolina over a handful of SEC offers, including Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri and Tennessee. He’ll graduate high school in December and enroll in January.
“What got me is the opportunity that’s over there, for position-wise and education-wise,” he said. “And the environment, I think that fits me the best. I think I can succeed the best over there.”
Iyama, who is from Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., is one of three offensive linemen committed to the Gamecocks 2018 class. The others, LaMarius Benson and Hank Manos, project to play inside.
“They are looking for length and speed on the edge. A person like me, I think I can do that job,” Iyama said.
In June, he’ll return to Columbia to work with offensive line coach Eric Wolford during the linemen camp.
“I feel like I can trust him,” Iyama said. “He’s going to push me to the next level after college.”
It’s a similar story with coach Will Muschamp.
“I like his energy. I can trust him, too. I feel like he’s going to make me feel like family over there,” Iyama said.
According to the 247Sports composite, Iyama is ranked as the No. 42 offensive tackle in the Class of 2018.
