OL Will Putnam (6-5 270) of Harrisburg, NC was offered by USC in late May and he immediately put the Gamecocks at the top of his list with an eye towards a possible commitment at the Gamecock Showcase this Saturday. With that event now just two days off, nothing has changed between Putnam and the Gamecocks.
“If nothing new pops (as in new major offers) then a commitment is likely,” Putnam said. “My big thing was, it is SEC football. Like, it doesn’t get any bigger than this. It is just such a great opportunity. It’s like a dream I’ve had as a kid to play for a big time school.”
Putnam has been in regular contact with Gamecock offensive line coach Shawn Elliott and has gotten the gameplan from him for how he would be used.
“I would play tackle, I don’t know what side yet,” Putnam said. “He says that he can see that I move very well for my size, that I’m athletic.”
Putnam will be in Saturday with his mother and barring something else coming up, he’ll likely leave as a Gamecock commitment.
“Like I said, if no other major offers come in, then USC is my top choice.”
Putnam does have other offers from Connecticut, Ohio, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, Elon, Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern.
