On MLB opening day, the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball program has five former players in starting lineups

Last season, former South Carolina baseball star Christian Walker played only 37 games in the majors.
Now he’s an opening day starter for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Walker was one of five Gamecocks getting the call to start on the first day of the MLB season. His Diamondbacks face the LA Dodgers at 4:10 p.m. Thursday.
Walker hit three home runs in 49 at-bats last season.
Other USC alums making opening day starts include:
▪ Boston’s Jackie Bradley Jr. vs. Seattle
▪ Detroit catcher Grayson Greiner vs Toronto
▪ Kansas City’s Whit Merrifield leading off against the Chicago White Sox
▪ Toronto’s Justin Smoak, hitting fourth vs. Detroit
