One visit is all it takes for Tate to make decision, commits to Butler

The exodus of prime basketball talent from the state of South Carolina continued Monday night when Dorman PG Myles Tate announced a commitment to Butler. Tate took an official visit with the Bulldogs over the weekend and that was enough for him to form a decision. He had narrowed his decision to Butler, USC, College of Charleston, Pitt, Appalachian State and Ole Miss.
The decision has to be a shock to USC coach Frank Martin who recruited Tate longer than any of the other head coaches. The Gamecocks tracked Tate over the last two seasons and were regular visitors to his games on the AAU circuit. In late July, Tate indicated the Gamecocks were in excellent shape with him.
“South Carolina is a good fit for me I think. It’s at home so family and things, that won’t be a problem. The school, I just like. I like Coach (Frank) Martin a lot. I feel like I can fit there and play to the best of my abilities. They’ve been showing me a lot of love for a long time. That’s important to me. Loyalty. They’ve been watching me since the summer of my 10th grade year. That really means a lot.”
But apparently not enough to land him. Tate’s decision means the Gamecocks will miss out on both of Dorman’s highly acclaimed 2020 prospects. 6-9 PJ Hall has already cut the Gamecocks from his list.
Clemson also offered Tate but did not really follow up with much interest, so he did not seriously consider the Tigers. The Tigers are on the short list with Hall who will take an official visit to Clemson on September 6th. He will follow that with officials to Florida, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Georgia Tech
