WR OrTre Smith of Wando is one of the hottest recruiting commodities in the state.  He has played the recruiting game close to the vest working closely with his mother, a former recruited college athlete, on the ins and outs and ups and downs of the process.  Now he’s ready to begin the most important visits of the summer that will ultimately lead to his commitment announcement currently set for his birthday, September 11th.

According to Smith’s mother, this Friday he flies to Atlanta to attend a Rivals camp.  His mother will drive to Atlanta to meet him and then the two will go to Georgia for a Sunday visit. From Athens the pair will drive to Columbia for a Monday morning visit with the Gamecocks.  Then it’s back to Charleston for some practice time before heading to Clemson June 17th  for a visit.

After Clemson, the tentative plan is for Smith to hook up with his godmother in North Carolina for visits to North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Smith also wants to visit Notre Dame and Ole Miss but those trips have not been scheduled.  Smith also wants to take some visits in July after the dead period ends and West Virginia could be one.

Smith’s mom said he’s not been able to come up with a top six or seven and these visits will help him get to that point in a few weeks.  Tashia Green said all the schools are keeping in regular contact with her and her son.

Smith is graduating early and with an early September announcement date planned, these summer visits basically play the role of official visits in terms of information gathering and bonding with coaches.  He is not making the visits to camp or workout for teams.

“We’re actually going for a sit down, thorough discussion,” Ms. Green said.  “Hey, what is this?  What is that?  I mean, it’s the rundown.  It’s those 32 questions that we may have.”
