Kentucky kicked off the recruiting process for class of 2015 offensive tackle Zach Giella 6'7" 300lbs (Augusta, Ga./Augusta Christian Schools) on the day before National Signing Day 2014 when the Wildcats offered him a scholarship..

Since then, multiple schools have quickly followed suit. Last Friday California offered and then South Carolina and Mississippi State offered the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder yesterday. Giella believes Sanford, Duke and Virginia could be next.

Even though Giella resides in the state of Georgia, he's less than an hour and a half away from the South Carolina campus and was thrilled to learn the news of the offer.

"I know they finished in the top 10 this year," Giella says of Carolina. "They won their bowl game. They had a really good season. They're going to have a No. 1 or first round draft pick with Jadeveon Clowney. He's been a real bad dude for them the past couple of years. Their offensive line has been dominating for a long time and their running game has been near the top of the SEC for a little while, so that's what's really attracting me to South Carolina is their domination on the line of scrimmage."

Giella has never visited for a game, but has camped at USC before and has been in town many times because his brother lives in Columbia. He's got another brother who may be attending grad school at South Carolina.

Giella spoke to offensive line coach Shawn Elliott for 10-15 minutes Tuesday which is when he received the news of the offer.

"We were talking about family and about USC and he offered me a scholarship," Giella said. "He talked to me about what he wants me to do there at Carolina and what he seems me doing, and what he's expecting out of me. He said he'd like me to anchor his 2015 offensive line recruiting class at right tackle. He said he sees me as a good fit at Carolina just the way I play and the way I carry myself. That was definitely cool to hear."

Most of Giella's contact with USC before was with his recruiter of record, special teams coordinator Joe Robinson.

"I'm really building a relationship with him," Giella said of Robinson. "He's been to my school a couple of times. We talk about a lot of football and just how they're doing in the recruiting process. I've talked to him a handful of times and seen him come by twice in person. We've mostly talked football and recruiting so far."

Giella says he could commit to the school of his choice as soon as this spring but does want to be able to take official visits.

He's planning to visit Kentucky this weekend for a junior day and will visit South Carolina on Feb. 25.

"I think that South Carolina has the edge at the moment but Kentucky and Mississippi state are also right in there," Giella said. "It's all pretty close right now, so no big leads."

Giella has not yet been ranked by anyone in the recruiting industry.
