Two Florida stars visit South Carolina, nab offers
Miles Brooks was among the contingent of prospects at South Carolina on Saturday for the Florida game. The 2020 defensive back from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., landed an offer from Will Muschamp before the Gamecocks rolled to a 28-20 win.
Fred Davis Jr., Brook’s teammate and another 2020 defensive back, was also offered by South Carolina’s second-year head coach.
“I got a few minutes to talk to him before the game started, and he was telling me how he saw what I’ve been doing and he likes the work that I’ve been putting in, so he decided to offer me,” Brooks said.
It was his first time seeing the Gamecocks in person.
“I really enjoyed the visit,” Brooks said. “I got to tour the stadium. I got to speak with a few coaches and staff. I got to meet coach Muschamp and we all know how he’s an outstanding coach and how he’s turning the program around. I also got to meet [defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson]. He’s a good guy. I love what he’s doing with the DBs.
“And the game, I liked the way they played. I like South Carolina.”
This season, Brooks has 23 tackles, 4 pass breakups and a forced fumble.
UCLA and Virginia Tech, the only other school he has visited this season for a game, have offered, too.
The 6-foot-2, 171-pound prospect has a few things he’ll keep in mind during the recruiting process.
“Coaches showing that they really care,” Brooks said. “The atmosphere and the culture that the program brings, that’s a big part. And what’s going to get me better as a player and also a man. Wherever I feel like it’s best for my life, moving on.”
Still committed to Tennessee
Tennessee commit and 4-star 2018 cornerback Jaycee Horn from told Phil Kornblut of sportstalksc.com that he’s not ready to change his mind, even though coach Butch Jones was fired Sunday.
“Everything is still the same, I’m committed,” Horn said. “I’m still committed right now; nothing has changed.”
Horn said South Carolina and Alabama, the two programs he also considered before committing to the Vols, will receive official visits. Clemson, Ohio State and Tennessee are also in the mix for officials.
