The transfer portal how can it help the Gamecocks to fill holes for next year's team?

With a bowl game still on the horizon, possible staff changes coming and plenty of current Gamecock players with decisions to be make about their futures, it’s not altogether clear what the roster needs will be this offseason. But as the transfer portal begins to fill up and with some context clues — there are a few positions South Carolina may need to plug with veteran imports heading toward Shane Beamer’s second offseason in charge in Columbia.

Gamecocks may look to bolster through the transfer portal:

Starting with QB: the Gamecocks could look to the portal for an experienced option to springboard an offense that was average, at best, during Beamer’s first full season at the helm.

Fans will clamor for Ohio State transfer Jack Miller or former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler to join the fold, though the indication is there’s not any discernible interest from South Carolina, Rattler or Miller in creating a marriage. With coaching changes continuing to reshuffle staffs and rosters, it may not be until late December or January that a true target becomes clear here. However, it’d be surprising if South Carolina doesn’t bring in at least one new signal-caller who’s not already on the radar.

Beamer is Meeting with Ewers and Samson today in Texas. Beamer trying to confirm visit plans with Quinn. But Texas Tech is the team to beat.

Word on the street is that first round draft pick-level NIL money is on the table for Quinn Ewers if he chooses Texas as his transfer destination.

The weaponization on the NIL front is fully underway.

It's just a legalized way for bagmen to operate now (NIL).

So no faith in Doty, Brown or Gauthier or Davis? The more the merrier, competition is never a bad thing!

I like Davis potential, Brown did well but lets be honest here where else would he be a starting QB in the SEC. Gauthier lot of work and Doty needs to be able to control his throws. not accurate on medium or down field throws. Maybe it was the injury.

Be honest here seems like all the players we Gamecocks wanted from the portal is most likely a pipe dream. These kids holding out for big bucks we just do not have the funds to provide here. Gosh the 15m broke us for the buyout alone. Money money money this will just about do me in as fan of college sports if it goes the way it is looking.

Agree the NIL should never have happened.  Anyone with a smidgen of a brain could see who that was gonna benefit.  And it isn't us.

Jake Bentley transferred out of here to Utah for the 2020 season.  He was expected to win the starting job there, but didn't.  He played okay and started a couple of games, but ended up showing the same bad tendencies he had here before he left.  Then he transferred to South Alabama this year, where he started but hurt his knee against Troy.

With the end of a college football career that spanned six years and three different teams in sight, Opelika alum Jake Bentley wanted to go out on his own terms.

Bentley played on a torn MCL and ACL and threw for 354 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in South Alabama’s regular season finale against Coastal Carolina on Friday. Bentley’s efforts were crucial for the Jaguars, which hung tight with the Chanticleers and forced overtime before losing 27-21 to end their season.

Bentley suffered the knee injuries during South Alabama’s game against Troy on Nov. 6 and subsequently missed the Jaguars’ games against Appalachian State and Tennessee. Given his playing career was nearing its end, Bentley made up his mind that he was gutting it out for one more game.

Jake became the first QB in South Alabama history to score 5 TDs in a game this season.

Last weekend the #17 Utah Utes defeated #10 Oregon 38-10 behind SO QB Cameron Rising to win the PAC-12 Championship for HC Kyle Willingham.

A few grains of slat regarding transfer QBs.  The fact Muschamp lost the handle on Jake and Hilinski is the biggest reason why he was not a good HC in my book.

We lost our premier DT QB this season because he got stepped on in the pocket of some inept Pro-style offense that nobody here can seem to run before the season even started.

New OC first, then get the QBs in here.

Man, Jake did for sure light the Taters up that night.
Yep.
