Prunty gone

Cocky&Proud was spot on yesterday. Wonder why he left?

So strange.  What gives, I wonder?  Here he is at Media Day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2OuJC75qrU), just a week ago, talking about how awesome the school and coaches were; I wonder if there was some kind of incident and he was asked to leave.  I can't think of anything else that makes any sense to explain why he would transfer in, then back out again after one month.

Trouble is, the defensive backfield is where we needed the most help.

And so it begins...it would be nice to have at least 1 year go by without losing a major player to transfer, injury, grades, legal troubles or alien abduction before the season even begins.  smh

Anytime a projected starter is removed from the team equation, it's a hit to the team. But was Prunty in this position? He was talked up when he transferred to us, but is that the same thing?

I haven't been talking much about the team or roster depth or potential of the starters, because of so much that has happened under Muschamp in his final 2-3 seasons, and what he left for Beamer. Then, I still have a healthy degree of skepticism of Beamer's ability to be a head coach in the SEC. There's a TON of "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude in me at this time - I'm not expecting for immediate 10+ win seasons and contention of division titles. I fully expect that with even GREAT success under Beamer in rebuilding the program, that it's going to take 2-3 seasons to do so, just to get back to consistent bowl contention.

So even WITH Prunty, we were most likely headed for some rough times this season. Without him is no different. We will need to work our way back, and him leaving the program doesn't change any of that. Lets stay focus.....

Um yeah, he was a freshman All-American at a position we desperately needed help with.

I saw this quote on GCC. I don't know if it means anything in regards to him entering the transfer portal, but it's interesting nonetheless.

“All the coaches hold everybody accountable. There’s no favoritism or anything like that. Everyone gets the same treatment and everyone is held to a certain standard. That’s kind of new to me. I’m a true freshman All-American, but they aren’t going to let me do whatever I want. Nah, I’m going to get the same treatment as everybody else.”

The biggest blow we will suffer is the loss of the scholarship. It would have been nice to have him, but he never played a down for Carolina, so we haven’t lost anything. We are better at the position than we were last year, I know that wasn’t tough to beat, and I believe we have a better coaching staff, and we definitely have a proven, better DB coach. I’ve heard Prunty has family issues, I’ve heard he didn’t like the structure, or whatever. I don’t know what’s true, and at this point, it doesn’t matter. If he doesn’t want to be here, there’s nothing we can do about it. Let him go, shake it off, adapt and overcome.

I saw that too the other day and thought the same thing.

I thought I saw another one that said something along the lines of him being surprised at our high strength and condition standards and maybe struggling to get up to speed there first.

It seemed like he really wanted to be here, though.

Not putting to much emphasis on this, he came in from the portal, may be a square peg trying to fit a round hole.  Talk is one thing, actions another..  Life goes on.  Let's see what happens on September 4th with who we have.

The transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh.

Overall I think it's good that if a player's heart is not in it (for whatever reason) let him leave and bring in someone who wants to be here.

But strange that he sounded so upbeat about it just recently. Of course it could be totally unrelated to the school or team - like family or other personal reasons.

Can he go immediately to another team?  His third team in months, and just play?
