Chris sits down with Gamecocks three star wide receiver commit Da’Qon Stewart to discuss his commitment to South Carolina:
Q: Talk about the recruiting process. What have been the best and worst parts for you specifically?
DS: The recruiting process has been fun. I’m just enjoying it, because a year ago, I didn’t have any offers. The downside is it’s just constant texting and I really don’t like talking at all. I just stay to myself.
Q: Coming out of the state of North Carolina, how familiar were you with South Carolina football coming up?
DS: I really don’t know much not gonna lie to you. I just knew they had a winning tradition. Then when coach Champ came, he turned the program around.
Q: What went into your decision of committing to South Carolina?
DS: The family vibe. Also, my mom loving everything about the school and coaches and the depth because I have a chance to come in and play as a freshman.
Q: Taking a look at your offer list, do you feel like you’re a little bit underrated as a prospect?
DS: I don’t feel I’m underrated , it’s just I committed early. I talk to a lot of the quote end quote “big schools” everyday. They just don’t wanna pull the gun because I’m committed.
Q: Talk about your relationship with the coaching staff. What did they say their plans are for you once you step on campus?
A: My relationship is good with the coaches talk to them every day. I really don’t know yet.
Q: Obviously, the Gamecocks are loaded at the QB position for the forseeable future. What’s your relationship like with Jake Bentley, Dakereon Joyner, Ryan Hilinski, Luke Doty, etc. and how excited are you to have one of those guys throwing you the ball?
DS: Very excited because once Jake [Bentley] leaves we have guys they can step right in and contribute so I’m very excited
Q: You put up the picture the other day with Mike Wyman, Luke Doty, Tank Bigsby and yourself. How excited are you to lace it up with those guys?
DS: I’m very excited. Those are my brothers and they’re the guys I have the closest relationship with. I’m still trying to get Tank [Bigsby] there with us
Q: What would you say is your biggest strength as a wide receiver?
DS: Catching. I can catch anything and I’m faster than a lot of people.
Q: On the contrary, what would you say is the biggest thing you’re looking to improve on when you make the jump to the college level?
DS: Right now, I’m working on my routes and technique so I feel like that’s what I’m going to focus on when I get there as well.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about being a Gamecock?
DS: Trying to win a [national] championship.
