Two of South Carolina’s top offensive commitments for the 2016 class, quarterback Brandon McIlwain of Newtown, Pa., and running back C.J. Freeman of Greensboro, N.C., made official visits over the weekend. Both remain committed after the visits, but both still face decisions about the future.
McIlwain was joined on the visit by his parents. His grandmother, who lives in Irmo, came in for the dinner Friday night. He spent most of his time with head coach Will Muschamp and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper talking about the offense and their plans for him. Christian Pellage served as his host.
But McIlwain left the visit still undecided about whether or not to enroll early and thus cement his future with the Gamecocks.
"I'm going to have to go home and talk that over with my parents," McIlwain said.
Should he decide not to enroll in January, McIlwain said he could take more official visits and the pro baseball draft also would come into play. He could not say which way he was leaning as of Sunday.
Freeman said he enjoyed his visit and has not de-committed, but he won't finalize a decision until he makes an announcement Tuesday night at 7:30. Freeman said he will have hats from USC, Wisconsin, Louisville and Georgia Southern on the table.
Freeman said he spent a lot of time with the coaches and "learned a lot." He did not want to elaborate on his visit or what his feelings were towards USC or the other schools he's considering.
