QB Dakereon Joyner talks top 5 list, and his 2 upcoming visits
Jan. 02, 2017
On Friday night, 4-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner released a top 5, which included South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Louisville and N.C. State.
The 2018 prospect from Fort Dorchester (North Charleston, S.C.) High School told SEC Country over the weekend that his next cut will be to three. Exactly when that comes is to be determined, though he will make his final decision on Father’s Day, June 18.
Joyner has two visits lined up for the new year. On Jan. 15, he’ll travel to Blacksburg to visit Virginia Tech. About a month later, on Feb. 17, he’ll travel to Athens for a stop by the Georgia campus.
The Gamecocks are perceived to be the favorite, and for good reason. South Carolina has hosted Joyner for more visits than any of the other schools listed in his top 5. He traveled to watch them play in Columbia several times this fall. And he took multiple visits over the course of the spring and summer.
“I can see myself fitting in with South Carolina’s offense, and N.C. State’s offense as well. I like the way they (USC) throw the ball,” Joyner told Phil Kornblut. “They have a lot of threats and they’ve got some guys coming in. And the team itself is pretty young.”
As a junior, Joyner passed for 3,642 yards with 44 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 scores.
Muschamp and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper watched Joyner play in the final game of his junior season, during which he accounted for 3 touchdowns with 253 passing yards and 174 yards rushing.

In an interview with GamecockCentral, former South Carolina defensive tackle commitment Javon Kinlaw said the Gamecocks were back out front.
Kinlaw, who’s currently enrolled at Jones County (Ellisville, Miss.) Junior College, is scheduled to announce his decision on Jan. 31. South Carolina, Alabama and Southern Cal have official visits lined up for later this month.
Gamecocks included in top 6
South Carolina was one of five schools included in the top 6 for Tancey Richardson, a 2017 athlete from South Aiken (S.C.) High School.
Indiana, Georgia State, Colorado State, Maryland and Ole Miss were also included.
Richardson, a 2-star prospect, announced a commitment to South Carolina in the summer, but his pledge was not accepted.
