USC not only will be integrating new players into its offense this spring, the Gamecocks also will have new offensive leaders in Bryan McClendon and Dan Werner. And they will bring new ideas and concepts to the offense. Gamecock quarterback target Garrett Shrader of Charlotte will be in on Saturday to take a look.
“More aggressive down the field and a little bit more of a spread run game,” Shrader said about what he expects to see. “I’m not really looking for anything in particular but I want to see how. That’s what they said they are going to be doing and I want to see how that works out. ”
Shrader said he’s been talking regularly with Will Muschamp and Werner and they are clear about their desire to have him in the program.
“Obviously they want you to commit,” Shrader said. “They want me to come down and hang out and get a feel for it and make sure it’s the right place for me. I told them my timeline. I’ll be done in the next month and a half. They will be in my top group. They said whenever I’m ready, they’re ready for me to pull the trigger. They said I’m the guy they want.”
Shrader visited Mississippi State earlier this month and was impressed by new coach Joe Moorhead and his new offense. “He’s a high energy guy, very demanding, they put up numbers wherever he goes,” he said. He said he definitely will visit West Virginia and Penn State and Florida are also possibilities for visits. He’s not sure he will need to take any official visits before making his decision.
Shrader said he is considering signing early and graduating early but those decisions have not been finalized.
