In-state QB Davis Beville recaps visit

After winning one of the two 7-on-7 tournaments at South Carolina earlier this summer, Greenville (S.C.) High School is off to a 6-0 start. Junior quarterback Davis Beville, who has accounted for 25 touchdowns this season, returned to South Carolina in September for the Kentucky game.

“It was awesome,” he said. “That was my first time to a night game. I’d been to that Georgia day game that was on a Sunday. But the atmosphere there was crazy. Just seeing all of the fans under the lights was pretty cool.”

Beville “had a good conversation” with co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper.

“Just kind of [about] how he’s been watching and told me to keep doing my thing and these big games toward the end of my season are going to define my ability and showing what I can do,” Beville said.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect visited Virginia Tech earlier this season for the Old Dominion game. He’s planning other visits, but nothing has been set. Duke and N.C. State remain in contact. Louisville and Old Dominion also have begun expressing interest.

No stop for South Carolina yet

Former LSU defensive back Saivion Smith, who is enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, has scheduled visits to Alabama and Auburn. He already has been to Alabama and Mississippi State since transferring from LSU.

Alabama, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, is the favorite. Smith recently told SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner about the primary factors in his recruitment.

“I’m looking for a great coaching staff,” Smith said. “I want to choose a program that is known for winning and putting their players in the NFL. I definitely want to compete for a national championship. Those are some of the things I’m looking for in the next program I choose.”

Alabama certainly fits that bill.

De-commitment on the way?

Four-star cornerback Jaycee Horn, along with a lot of other Tennessee commits, appears to be a de-commitment candidate. It doesn’t help that Vols coach Butch Jones is on the hot seat.

That topic came up in a conversation with Phil Kornblut, who recently spoke with the 2018 prospect about Jones’ future at Tennessee.

“Everybody is saying Coach Jones won’t be there next year and things like that,” Horn said. “I have a close relationship with all the coaches. Right now, I’m a hundred percent committed to Coach Jones. I’ve been talking to them quite a bit, and I know they still believe in me and that’s always a big thing.”

South Carolina, Horn said, will receive an official visit. The Gamecocks had him on campus in September for the Kentucky game.

Clemson offered earlier this week.
