QB target Dakereon Joyner lands Elite 11 invite
May 16, 2017
On Monday afternoon, South Carolina quarterback recruit Dakereon Joyner (North Charleston, S.C.) was invited to the Elite 11 finals in California.
A few weeks later, on Father’s Day at Fort Dorchester High School, the 4-star recruit will announce his commitment. South Carolina and North Carolina State are the finalists.
Former South Carolina quarterback Brandon McIlwain, was named as one of the top 11 performers at the 2015 camp, but he transferred during spring practice. Stephen Garcia (2006) is another former Gamecock quarterback who’s participated in the Elite 11.
Joyner, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2018, landed his invite to the Elite 11 finals after performing in front of the organization’s staff earlier this month at The Opening’s regional stop in Charlotte, N.C.
Three other Elite 11 finalists were also on hand for the camp: Clemson commitment Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State commitment Emory Jones and Kentucky commitment Jarren Williams.
The Elite 11 finals are held June 2-4 in Los Angeles, Calif. The top 11 performers from the camp will then receive an invite to The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore.
Several South Carolina recruits have already been invited to this year’s The Opening finals, including 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall (Columbia, S.C.) and 3-star cornerback Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.).
