4 star DE Traveon Freshwater 6'1" 220lbs of Elizabeth City, NC totaled 27 sacks last season, which according to MaxPreps was the sixth highest figure in the country.  He also totaled 150 tackles.  They number for Freshwater now is three, as in his three top schools.

He has not shut the door on any schools but Freshwater said he has a favorite three right now of USC, Virginia Tech and NC State.  He will visit USC Friday and Saturday along with his teammate ATH JR Walker.

“South Carolina is one of my top three schools that I’m looking into, I’m very interested,” Freshwater said.  “Football wise,  I feel like it would be a great place for me, like home, and I could fit into their program.  Outside of football, school wise, I feel like it would be a good place to get my education. When I first went there I felt like home in my heart, somewhere I can be comfortable coaching wise. I feel like it’s a brotherhood.”

Freshwater said Will Muschamp and his defensive coaches see a relatively simple role for him in the defense.

“Rushing just about every down. They like my aggression. I play with emotion. I get after the football.”

Freshwater, who visited USC last year,  visited East Carolina Wednesday and has also been to Wake Forest.  He plans to visit Virginia Tech March 17th and NC State for its spring game in April, if not sooner.

As for a decision, Freshwater said he’s looking at making a commitment before his season.  He is not sure if he will graduate early.

He does not claim a favorite among his top three.
