Question surround, why didn’t Trae Hannibal play more? Did Frank Martin shove a player?

Jan. 08, 2020

Hannibal helped Carolina cut the Florida Gator lead to three at the break. But then he didn’t take his warm-up with shirt off for the final 20 minutes. When asked why?  Hannibal did not play. (VIEW ARTICLE)

I'm going to go with the man who is constantly yelling, screaming, cussing, pouting, belittling his players, given the stink eye, shoving players...all in public...decided he needed to teach yet another player how to act during an important basketball game where confidence, encouragement, support and a belief in the process sure would help evey once in awhile

Frank has some sort of problem with Hannibal.  I don't know what it is.   Maybe Hannibal isn't practicing well?  I don't know.  Whatever the problem is, I hope it will be corrected soon.

As for the "shove", no big deal.   Frank was frustrated.   So was I.   Move on.

Nah... No problems with Hannibal.  If you watch Hannibal's game, he's still partially in HS mindset.  He's got to grow in his understanding of the college game and his trust in Frank Martin's system.  Frank actually LOVES the kid, and thinks the world of his abilities.  Hannibal will be one of the cornerstones of the program next year, if he continues to develop.  He's just got to make the normal "freshman" changes to his game.  Once he matures (on and off the court), he'll be fine.

Do note that Hannibal's PPG and minutes have trended upward since the GW game (I've been tracking, and was going to post something over the break, but didn't get to do so).  His two minutes vs. Fla. was an aberration.  He's been at least 7 minutes in every game except DNP's and games against UNI and Wichita State.  Stetson was a season high in minutes AND points scored.

Hannibal will be just fine.  Frank is doing the right thing by holding him back and not forcing him into uncomfortable situations.  If Hannibal continues to progress (which he will), you'll see him breaking out and making a serious impact about midway through the SEC schedule.

I didn't mean Frank doesn't like Hannibal.   But Frank has some problem with his play or else he would play him more.   It might be as you describe, but there is some reason he isn't playing Hannibal more.   I think we need Hannibal to play.   We are struggling at PG and he could help with that.   Hopefully soon.
