Quick Hitters From South Carolina Baseball’s Tuesday Scrimmage
Oct. 03, 2019, | THESPURSUPSHOW
South Carolina scrimmaged for 3.5 innings on Tuesday afternoon. Five hitters took the plate in each inning, regardless the number of outs and/or situation.
RHP Parker Coyne started for one side while true freshman LHP Will McGregor started for the other side.
Coyne’s breaking ball was absolutely filthy when located down in the zone. He struggled with command of it early on but found a nice groove in his second inning of work and beyond.

McGregor is a kid who showed good moxie for a true freshman and without a doubt has a presence on the mound.
While his fastball did have good life, he appears to be a guy who’s going to pitch to contact often, at least early on in his career.
He reminds me a lot of LHP Dylan Harley last year, a true freshman who was thrust into action and struggled with his command mightily at times a year ago.
Still, McGregor looks to be a nice lefty addition for a Gamecocks staff who lacked dependable southpaws.
LHP Josiah Sightler and RHP Cam Tringali pitched the last two or so innings for the Gamecocks.
I see Sightler being a PO in the near future, as he continues to struggle mightily at the plate. Meanwhile, on the bump, his fastball has very good life while the breaking ball still looks to be a work in progress.
Tringali really impressed me. He looks to have a new sense of confidence after a really solid spring this past season.

As long as he continues to live down in the zone, I think Tringali could be a top notch arm for the Gamecocks this upcoming season.
As far as the hitters go, Brady Allen jumped off the page immediately with the strides he has made from the weight room. The kid looks like a legit SEC guy now.
Andrew Eyster hit a ball in the second inning that I swear was gone. He got under it just enough and flew out to the deepest part of the park in center field. Fully expect him to be a “dude” for USC once again this spring.
Wabash Valley JC transfer Noah Myers was a guy who stood out to me at the plate. He looks to be a tough out and could be that spark plug at the top of the lineup USC lacked a season ago.
The speed of Braylen Wimmer out of Yukon HS also stood out. In the first inning, he laced a single up the middle, then stretched it into a double due to the ball being bobbled in center field.
Simply put, the kid has got wheels.
Overall, this was a scrimmage dominated by the pitchers, ending in a 0-0 tie. Will be interesting to see how the hitters bounce back on Friday.
