RB Tavien Feaster goes on the record

Former Clemson running back Tavien Feaster Sunday night gave his first in-depth interview about his future plans. Feaster entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this month. Since then he has been focused on finishing this semester at Clemson, which included an internship with Coca-Cola, and getting his classes in order for summer school which begins at Clemson May 15th. Feaster plans to graduate this summer so he can be eligible immediately at hs new school. He said this new round of football recruiting is not something he’s rushing.
“I haven’t really thought about all that yet,” Feaster said. “I’m going to take my time and weight out all my options and find the best place for me. You’ve definitely got to check the depth charts. I didn’t think I was in a bad position at Clemson but personal reasons are why I left. Definitely got to check the depth chart. Can a team provide what I’m looking for, that’s mainly what I’m worried about right there.”
Along with a degree, Feaster will leave Clemson with a pair of national championship rings. And he’ll be walking away from a pretty decent chance at a third one with the Tigers. So of course, a chance to win a title somewhere else sits in the back of his mind as he looks over his opportunities.
“I want to go to a team where I’m not the only good player,” Feaster said. “I want to go to a team that has weapons around me. They already got weapons and I can come in and contribute, then hopefully we can get to the playoffs.”
USC offered Feaster last week. The Gamecocks recruited Feaster out of Spartanburg High School but Clemson was always his favorite. He committed to the Tigers on National Signing Day of 2015, a full year before he could sign. Outside of a late flirtation with Tennessee, there was never a question about his future plans. Now, the Gamecocks get another crack at him. Feaster has been in touch with Will Muschamp and running backs coach Thomas Brown.
“They are recruiting me like most teams. Obviously, they want to talk to me and see where I’m at with everything,” Feaster said. “That’s really how it’s been with everybody. Everybody is seeing where my head is and where I’m at with everything. But, I look at it (USC) as a place that’s providing me with an opportunity to better myself and better my future. I haven’t really looked at it from a fan’s aspect because that’s not my job and that’s not what I’m doing it for. That doesn’t really matter to me. What really matters to me is that I go to a place that’s going to use me and play me in the way that I need to be played. Checks all the marks that I need to check.”
Depending on where he lands, it’s possible Feaster could face his old teammates in 2019. Certainly, if he goes to USC that’s a definite. Should he decide on Alabama or Oklahoma, he might see the Tigers in the playoffs. And if he were to come across his old pals in orange this season, he could deal with it.
“To me, it wouldn’t be weird,” Feaster said. “Those are my guys down there, you know. They understood the situation. Before I left, I spoke with my guys and told them the situation and this was best for me. Everybody agreed. It is what it is. If I have to see them down the road, that’s just the way it will have to be. Like old times, like old practice times I guess.”
As for some of the other schools he’s heard from, Feaster cited Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas off the top of his head. Feaster has not decided on any of the visits he will take. He said he wants to get all of his summer school classes set before moving forward with deciding on and scheduling official visits. He won’t make a decision until he has the chance to visit some of the schools that are interested in him.
