It’s hard to make it to the national title game and most teams that get there have a history of sustained success. We’ve just begun our successful run. Heck, I remember being stoked out of my ever lovin’ mind when we beat clemtech for our 6th win to make into the Carquest Bowl. It used to be a race to the finish line to scrape together 6 wins and then hope enough spots were open for us to get some lousy bowl. Now it’s just a matter of how good of a bowl we can get. We will go to good bowl this year. We will finish in the top 25 again (barring disaster). We have moved from an absolute nobody in college football to a perennial top 25 team. That in and of itself is enormously huge. Huge. We are a mainstay in the top 25. When’s the last time we were unranked? I don’t even recall. We lose sight of all that.
No way am I trying to sugar coat the embarassing display that was put on tonight. We stunk it up big time and have serious, serious, serious issues to deal with. But our schedule is favorable. We can salvage a lot by winning out in the SEC and beating clemtech for the 4th time in a row. No it won’t be the great season we were all hoping for, but great seasons are great for that reason…they don’t happen very often.
We thought we might have a great team this year but we don’t. So what? Out of all the teams in college football, only 1 or maybe 2 will be able to lay claim to having a great season.
