Why South Carolina?
Initial thing was Erick Hyman - grabbed him in a 2 hand choke hold with his passion about building a great bball program. Mentions Spurrier, Staley, and Tanner all coming here and winning. Why not basketball?
Recent History not great - why do you think you can win here now?
Same thing they said at Kstate - was told he couldn't win there. He doesn't see why the same thing couldn't happen here. It happened back in the day and doesn't see why it can't happen. The challenge to bring it here gets him excited.

Hurry up and buy your season tickets cause you'll be standing in line cause we will play harder than anyone in the country. We will not stop until we win the SEC - get high level kids and recruit nationally. Get kids who care more about the name on the front than the back.
You pattern your intensity after anyone?
No, there is military in my family, it's just my personality and who I am. I have tremendous passion and I don't try to hide it. We invest a lot of love in our young men and to play with passion and courage. We demand alot out of them and they will respond.
What do you think of Spurrier?
I grew up in Florida - unbelievable amount of respect and is one of the greats of all time. Like a kid in the candy store meeting him when hired - he was giddy. He's awesome, genuine and a winner.

Basically, it was a short interview and I gave you about 80% of what was said. Main themes I got out of it is that he relishes in the challenge of doing something that really hasn't been done here - highlights that other big name coaches came here to do the same thing. He will take his passion and high expectations he has for his kids and get the most out of them and to totally buy into being proud of the school and representing the university. The guy has a vision, purpose, and very transparent approach that will really attract recruits, fans, and bring a national spot light to SC basketball. Erick Hyman did an OUTSTANDING job recruiting Martin and that was evident from Martin's comments.
