From a recruiting standpoint, Muschamp’s Williams-Brice debut as South Carolina’s head coach was a rousing success.
There were a couple of 5-star players, a handful of 4-star talents and a whole bunch of guys in attendance who we’ll probably get to know more about over the next several months as we progress through the season. And, of course, a bunch of the commitments in the Gamecocks’ 2017 class were there, too.
Two of the headlining 2018 guests had nice things to say about what turned out to be a pleasant afternoon in Columbia.

The Florence, S.C., prospect was joined by 4-star DE K.J. Henry, who’s from Clemmons, N.C. Henry, the No. 2-ranked weak-side defensive end, enjoyed his first trip back to South Carolina since the summer
As expected, 4-star DT Rick Sandidge made it in for the 20-15 win over East Carolina. The No. 6 defensive tackle from Concord, N.C., told SEC Country that his trip was “really good.”
There were some surprise guests, including 2018 T.L. Hanna High School (Anderson, S.C.) teammates Stephon Wynn and Kavesz Sherard. Wynn, a 4-star prospect, is the No. 5-ranked strong-side defensive end in the country. Sherard, who’s also a 4-star prospect, is the No. 19-ranked offensive tackle.
Eli Adams of South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., had a “great” time seeing the two schools that have offered.
“South Carolina was ready to play and the fans was ready to see a game,” he said. “It just feels good to be in that atmosphere.”
The night before, Adams played a prominent role in South Pointe’s win over Mallard Creek High School, which Muschamp and running backs coach Bobby Bentley attended. Mallard Creek, of course, features Gamecocks commitments Eric Douglas and T.J. Moore.
Muschamp and Bentley also got an in-person look at South Pointe PK B.T. Potter, who SEC Country introduced to readers earlier this season. Over the weekend, the 2018 prospect made his way down to Clemson for the S.C. State game.
Four-star DT M.J. Webb also was among the commitments on campus.
“I knew the fan base was the best, just from Twitter and all, but being all surrounded by them on game day left me surprised,” he said. “Best fans in the nation.”
Three-star QB Jay Urich and 3-star OL Summie Carlay were spotted chatting with one another on the sideline during the pre-game festivities.
Four-star CB Jamyest Williams visited for the first time since he committed to the Gamecocks on national television. Before the game, Williams was chatting with Muschamp in the middle of the field during pre-game.
South Carolina also scored a visit from Gunner Britton, a 2018 offensive lineman from Conway (S.C.) High School.
Defensive line target Matthew Butler (Garner, N.C.) didn’t visit South Carolina on Saturday — wasn’t expected to. The 3-star recruit went to Duke instead.

Look for South Carolina to score a visit from Butler in the not too distant future. The same could probably be said about Aaron Sterling, a 3-star strong-side defensive end from Tucker (Ga.) High School, who de-committed from Alabama after visiting N.C. State on Saturday.
SEC Country reporter Chris Kirschner wrote on Monday morning that South Carolina, Tennessee and N.C. State are in the best position to land Sterling.
The Gamecocks basketball coaches also hosted a pair of official visitors, including 4-star SG Devontae Shuler, who attends Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, but is originally from Irmo, S.C.
