Recruiting change

I've noticed a recruiting change of late in men's basketball.   Since Will Bailey was hired, it seems to me that we are offering more players, or at least making our offers public more than in the past.   I suspect this is due to Bailey's influence, though I can't prove it.   We also seem to be offering underclassmen earlier than I remember.    Has anyone else noticed this?    I think I like the change.  And I hope it yields some good results for us.

You could be right or it could be the fact that during this "lockdown"/COVID era making offers without working a player out would be impossible. Either way I agree with you and see that we have offered players early and without in person workouts/meetings, regardless Coach Martin has done a great job recruiting IMO comparable tp past coaches and if that effort is bumped up even a little it would take the program to another level. I think Coach Martin does a great job of coaching the intangibles for all and putting role players in position to be successful, getting one or two more talented players to play role positions as FR will make a huge difference in the success of the team on a year to year basis.

I think Frank and his staff have recruited some good players since they have been here.  No one-and-dones, but its hard to get those guys away from the "blue bloods".    Especially since Frank won't cheat.  Not that I want him to.   I think the 2020-21 team is as talented and deep as any Frank has had at USC.    And if they are healthy, I expect them to finish in the top third of the SEC.   Although, that will be tough to do because the SEC is probably overall the best it has been in some time.  Still, I  like our chances with the players we have.  As for recruiting going forward, we are after some players that seem to have lots of potential, so I am pleased with that.  I just hope we get to play this season.

If the cards fall right (which for some reason, they have not traditionally done for USC), there should be some massive recruiting coups happening for the Gamecocks in the next three years.  A big necessity will be that USC show up in the SEC this year and next year, and most crucially that we are able to get ourselves back to the NCAAs.  There are a few big time recruits who are taking a serious look at us.  They are sold on the "building the program" and taking it to the next level mentality, along the lines of what Jason Kidd did with Cal way back in the day.  We almost caught the same break a few years back with the Brian Bowen thing... but, alas, it was not to be at that time.

It's interesting... for the first time in a while, I'm actually hearing those top notch recruits say that Frank is the kind of coach they WANT to play for.  They don't have to be SOLD ON playing for Frank - they're almost coming to US.  It seems that getting a few players into the NBA and them showing that their skillset was developed under Coach Martin has helped pave the way for this new (potential) recruiting wave.  That's why I say that an NCAA berth is going to be crucial.

The names aren't there yet, but I'm hopeful that we will see some fruits of the Will Bailey hire in the VERY near future.  We're in the hunt, folks.  Hope for a good year this year from the 2020-21 Gamecocks!  It WILL pay dividends.
