Recruiting July 25th: Davis Jr. wanted to go to USC; Bandy reviews USC visit; Virginia Tech lands SC ATH; Hayden makes his decision

Dutch Fork ATH Stephen Davis Jr. will follow his father’s footsteps and play his college football at Auburn.  Davis said he’s very excited for the opportunity and looks forward to his career, but in a rare moment of candidness for a high school recruit, he admitted he wanted to go to USC but was turned away.  “I wanted to go to USC but stuff didn’t work out.  Auburn stayed with me all along and I felt like that was home.  I loved it anyway so I stuck with it and they stuck with me.”   Davis said he wanted to sign with USC in February but with a major knee injury he was rehabbing and some shaky grades Will Muschamp opted to pass on him.   “They said they were all filled up and I was like alright but they still had a couple of dudes sign.  I was like, that’s just kind of messed up.  Auburn stuck with me the whole time when I decommitted, when I took my chance of not signing with them on Signing Day.  I wanted to wait it out because I really wanted to go to USC.  Everything just fell into place.  God stayed by my side and Auburn stayed by my side and it worked out like that.”   Davis said he reports to Auburn July 31st and is a full qualifier and he’s not sure which position he will play.  He was a safety and a running back for the Silver Foxes.

DB Trajan Bandy of Miami, a former Oklahoma commitment, visited USC Saturday and has the Gamecocks in his lead group.  “Coach Muschamp and coach T-Rob welcomed me there and I got the chance to be around some great players that I grew up playing football with.  It was real fun, no pressure or anything.  Coach T-Rob I feel like is a genuine guy.  He said he needs  help in the secondary.  That caught my eye right there as soon as he said that I’m pretty much like this is going to have to be one of the places I have to choose from.  They get players like me and Jamyest (Williams), we can help turn the whole program around just being able to stop other teams from throwing the ball.  Earn our respect for the little guys because we’re both dogs.  Me and him on the same team would kind of be like unfair.”  Bandy said right now he’s looking at USC, Miami and Penn State.  He plans to return to USC for a game this season.  Bandy is not sure when he’ll make a decision but he doesn’t expect to make another commitment until after his season.
