Recruiting July 26th: Culpepper in touch with USC; Brad Johnson on what he’s looking for
DB Naytron Culpepper of Miami, Fla. released his top seven schools earlier this month and still has USC high up on his list. Culpepper increased his top list to include the Mississippi State Bulldogs when he was offered by them last week. The others are Michigan State, Utah, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Louisville. Culpepper said he communicates with defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and head coach Will Muschamp almost every other week via texts and phone calls. He’s made two unofficial visits to USC with the last one occurring in May and does not have any future visits planned as of now. Culpepper said he’s working on scheduling his official visits for his top schools and will make his commitment decision following them. He plans to see how the season goes before picking a specific release date for his decision. (story by Carson Mason)
DE Brad Johnson of Pendleton was at USC Saturday and said he had a great time on the visit. He had considered going to Virginia Tech Monday but didn’t make it. He’s also been looking at Michigan State, Notre Dame and Mississippi State for visits this summer. Other offers are Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech and Duke. “I’m just looking for the school that has the best overall fit for me academic and football wise. A place where I feel I have the best relationship with the coaches and players . Somewhere I can make an easy transition from high school to college.”
DB Michael Nesbitt of Ft. Lauderdale has USC in his top 10 along with LSU, West Virginia, Auburn, Central Florida, Arkansas, Maryland, Louisville, Kentucky and Pittsburgh.
DE Malik Herring of Forsyth, GA put out his updated top five Monday of Clemson, Alabama, Southern Cal, Georgia and LSU.
DB Zyon Gilbert of Montgomery, AL plans to commit soon. He has a USC offer landed in camp in June.
It’s now official for DB JC Jackson and his transfer to Maryland from Riverside JC, CA after USC was unable to take him in. He started his career at Florida.
