Recruiting June 6th: Muschamp checks out Jones JC talent; Farrell camps at USC; Lawson update
USC coach Will Muschamp and some of his staff spent Sunday at Jones County JC, MS working a camp that included players at Jones and high school prospects from the area. USC commitment DE Javon Kinlaw is going into his first season at Jones and got a chance to show Muschamp how much he’s developed. Also working out for the Gamecocks was DB Javien Hamilton. “It went great.” I think I impressed them with my abilities.”
USC has offered Jones DB Johnathan Abram, a former cornerback at Georgia who transferred after his freshman season. The Gamecocks offered Abram’s younger brother Aaron on Sunday at the camp. Aaron is an athlete from Hattiesburg, MS.
Other Jones prospects USC checked out Sunday included LB Cannon Gibbs, DE Tramond Lofton and DE Marques Ford. “They liked what they saw,” Gibbs said. “We have a lot of players that they are interested in. As of right now, they aren’t taking an inside backer from JUCO, but we will keep in touch. I believe they are coming to our second game of the season to see us play.” Lofton also got a favorable feeling. “They showed a lot of interest. They kept pulling me to the side talking to me and had me doing side drills.”
DL Neil Farrell of Mobile, AL was at USC’s camp over the weekend. “Atmosphere and coaches were great. It was great to be there.” Farrell also has offers from Clemson, Auburn, Kentucky, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Mississippi State and others. He is going to a camp at Alabama Tuesday.
DE Tre Lawson of North Augusta said he continues to favor USC at this point but is not ready to make a final decision and commitment. “I’m probably going to do it going into my senior season so I can focus on football and my grades,” he said. ” I haven’t really been talking to them (USC) as much but we definitely stay in contact. I have a little more thinking to do.” Most recently Lawson said he’s been hearing a good deal from Tennessee and Florida State. He said he will make another visit to USC this summer.
