Recruiting Notes For June 04: Ellis still strong on USC after camp Saturday; Jeffcoat still looking for USC offer; USC targets commit elsewhere

DL Jabari Ellis of Georgia Military JC has been favoring USC over a field that primarily consists of NC State and Colorado at this point. Saturday he was in Columbia and gave Will Muschamp a further look at his skills as he worked out at Muschamp’s first camp of the summer.  “The thing that stood out the most was the one-on-one I had with Coach Muschamp and Coach Thompson.  I knew I was a top prospect on their board but just to hear it from Coach Muschamp saying they wanted this amount of guys to come in for the class of 2018, and of the JUCO players I’m #1, that meant a lot.”  Ellis said he went thru agility drills, the 40 shuttle and the broad jump.  Ellis said he knew he wasn’t committing Saturday because he’s waiting until the end of July. “They asked about it.  They want me to. but it’s not like they are pressuring me.  They said, ‘take your time, we do want you, but don’t take too much time.’ They made a little joke there.”    Ellis said USC still leads but he wants to visit NC State next weekend before clarifying things in his mind.  He also plans to visit Colorado later in the month.

DE Trajan Jeffcoat of Irmo attended the USC camp Saturday in hopes of landing an offer from Will Muschamp. Jeffcoat feels he performed well but Muschamp wants to see some of his senior film before moving on him.  “He said everything that I’m showing now, he wants me to translate it on film.  They are saying me now and me last year are two different people.  They are way  more interested in the person that I’m showing now.  All they want me to do is take that to next year on film.  I’m optimistic but a little disappointed.  I think I performed extremely well.  I was really hurt when they didn’t offer me but they said it’s a long process.”  Jeffcoat said he might go to Clemson Wednesday for a camp but he also has some ACT study work scheduled for that day.  Jeffcoat has a Missouri offer and hears from the Tigers daily.  He said Maryland appears close on an offer.  He also has offers from Colorado State, Indiana and Middle Tennessee State.

TE Brandon Shelnutt of Lawrenceville, GA will be at USC’s first game of June Saturday, but only as an observer.  ” I won’t be camping due to a small injury, but coaches wanted me to come up anyway for a visit.  I was told that Coach Muschamp was very slow to offer without seeing guys in person. They asked me to come in for a visit or camp.” Shelnutt has an offer from South Florida and will visit there next week and he plans to visit other SEC and ACC schools this summer.  He also has offers from Georgia State, FIU, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Mercer and Jacksonville State.

OL Austin Donaldson (6-4 310) of Stockbridge, GA hopes to use camps this summer to earn major offers.  Right now he has offers from West Georgia, The Citadel and Buffalo.  One of his stops this month will be to USC.  “I have very high interest in South Carolina,  they are high on my radar.   I haven’t yet been offered by them but they are constantly sending me mail and they are always at my high school.  After camp and my performance in front of the coaches,  we should take this recruiting process through the roof and start something.”   Donaldson said he’s not talked with any of the Gamecock coaches at this point but they did scout his team during spring practice.

USC target OL Warren Ericson of Duluth, GA committed to Georgia Friday night.
