Recruiting rankings" rivals/247sports/ESPN

Feb. 06, 2020

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp came out Wednesday and said his class had 24 of 25 spots filledThree of those are transfers, and the final one is rather key in five-star defensive lineman Jordan Burch. But with most of the action over in terms of player movement, it’s time to see how 247ESPN and Rivals rank the class.

The Gamecocks came in at No. 18 nationally in the 247 Sports composite rankings, which accounts for all three services. That comes in one spot lower than last season, which was the high-water mark for the Will Muschamp era. But there’s some variance among the recruiting services’ rankings.

Rivals: 22nd

ESPN: 21st

247’s own rankings: 13th

The 247 ranking is boosted by the fact that at least three consensus three-star Gamecocks commits, Trai Jones, Jaheim Bell and Ger-Cari Caldwell are considered four-stars in 247’s non-composite rankings.

Overall, the Gamecocks have nine consensus four- or five-star recruits, with enrollees MarShawn Lloyd and Luke Doty among its top-rated players.

The big lingering question is the Jordan Burch situation. While the the defensive lineman, ranked No. 8 in the composite player rankings, has shown few indications South Carolina won’t be his final choice, he and his family have not actually handed in the letter of intent to bind him to the class.

Composite rankings for the Will Muschamp era:

2016: 21st

2017: 19th

2018: 18th

2019: 17th

2020: 18th
