Recruiting Recap

07/26/13

OL Donell Stanley of Latta has cut his list to a final four of USC, Clemson, North Carolina and Alabama cutting LSU and Ohio State from his previous list. There is no order and there is no favorite. Stanley has not set a timetable for a decision. He visited Alabama earlier this month and was at USC’s Black Magic camp on Friday. Earlier this week Stanley was in the city of Clemson for his brother’s baseball games. He did not visit the Clemson campus while there.

DE Michael Barnett of Woodland was offered Friday by Tennessee. He also has offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Virginia Tech and NC State. USC and Auburn are also showing interest.

Florida State commitment DL Dexter Wideman of Saluda did attend USC’s Black Magic camp Friday. He was there on an unofficial visit, not to work out. Wideman committed to the Seminoles earlier this week but has left the door open for USC.

DE Rick Leonard of Middletown, MD has his choice down to Clemson and Florida State and could make the call as early as next week his coach said Thursday. “He’s dead in the center between Clemson and Florida State,” coach Kevin Lynott said. “That’s where he is right now. I think it’s 50-50.” Leonard is coming off a visit last week to Florida State and the Seminoles did a good job turning his head away from Clemson to some degree.

“He realizes he’s got to step back from that and get the pep rally out of him and make the best decision for his needs and where he thinks is going to be good for him,” Lynott said. Leonard camped at Clemson in June. His teammate OL Justin Falcinelli committed to the Tigers earlier this month.

Class of 2015 LB Mac McCurry (6-0 205) of Summerville had 220 tackles his sophomore season, enough to lead the state in tackles, according to him. He is hearing from several schools but has not received that first offer.

“Georgia called me (recently) and asked me to come to a camp so I went,” said McCurry. “It went really good and I liked the coaches a lot. It was called ‘Dawg Night’ and there was bunch of guys up there. We got to run some drills and later we did some 7-on-7. It was really good.” McCurry also is interested in USC and Clemson.

“I’ve talked to coach Sands (USC) and coach Elliott (Clemson) and all,” he said. “They’re the recruiting coordinators for my area but I haven’t gotten any mail or anything like that from them.” McCurry has visited USC, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern in the past for games but UGA was his only camp this summer. “We did a 7-on-7 camp at USC and Charlotte this summer,” he added. “Charlotte was another school I really liked.” Other schools showing interest include Vanderbilt and Duke among others. He does not have any favorites saying, “I guess Georgia is my favorite since they invited me to that camp, but really I’m open to anybody.”

RB Isaiah Lewis of Hillcrest committed Friday to Georgia Southern.
