DL Abu Lamin of Fort Scott JC, KS returned to school Monday from his home in North Carolina. He had looked into taking an official visit to Georgia for this weekend’s Dawg Night festivities but won’t make it. His next visit will be to Arkansas July 19th. He has nothing else set up but will take official visits to Tennessee and Georgia. “I’m not going to make my decision until I get all my visits in,” Lamin said. USC has been his favorite and remains so. He talked Wednesday with Gamecock
recruiter Deke Adams. “We didn’t talk about much,” he said. “Just talking to me about my classes and stuff. South Carolina is still my favorite, they are still my number one.” Right now, there is no number two but Lamin plans to have a top five after the Arkansas visit. He has taken official visits to USC and Florida. Besides USC, Lamin said he’s also talked to coaches from Arkansas, Arizona State, Georgia, Tennessee, Nebraska, Miami and Kentucky.
Class of 2015 RB Trayvon Thomas (5-9 198) of Darlington will attend a camp at USC later this month. He is showing a lot of interest in the Gamecocks. “They run a similar offense as we do at Darlington,” said Thomas. “They always have a powerhouse running game.” Thomas attended a camp at NC State earlier this summer and enjoyed his visit. “I got a chance to talk to their running back coach and their head coach,” he said. “They have really nice facilities and I like what they’re doing with the program.” Thomas has not heard much from any schools but believes that will change. “I got hurt as a sophomore so I only played in three games,” he said. He wants to attend a camp at Georgia next summer and is high on the Bulldogs. He did not express much interest in Clemson. “I really didn’t grow up a fan of theirs,” said Thomas.
Rising junior QB Will Brunson (6-3 180) of Carolina Forest is hearing from USC, Clemson, Charleston Southern, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, East Carolina and Louisville. Brunson attended a three-day camp at Louisville recently and got a good look at the program. “They have great facilities and I liked it a lot,” he said. “It was an overnight camp so I got to see a lot of the school. We did stuff like going to the film room and studying film, like two-minute offense, and thing likes that. Teddy Bridgewater spoke to us and that was pretty cool. The coaches haven’t stopped by the school yet but I think they’re interested.” Brunson grew up a Clemson fan but is unsure of their interest level. “They’ve got a big-time quarterback coming in this class so I don’t know what their plans are for next year,” said Brunson. “We’ll just have to see.” He is also interested in the Gamecocks. Brunson believes that Virginia Tech and East Carolina have shown the most interest but does not have any favorites. “I really need to focus on my junior season because that’s what most schools are going to look at,” he said. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,300 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Class of 2015 Michael Barnett (6-3 245) of Woodland has offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Virginia Tech and NC State with interest for USC and Auburn. He has visited each of the schools that have offered and recently attended a camp at Clemson. “I like it a lot up there,” said Barnett. “I like the way it’s set up. It’s very much a college town with the scenery and all. They’re coaches are great and treated me like family.” Barnett is showing interest in the Tigers as well as the Gamecocks. “I love the defense at Carolina,” he said. “I like their coaches and the stadium is really big.” He will attend a camp at Auburn next Saturday. “They’re showing a lot of interest and I wouldn’t be surprised if they offer me,” said Barnett. He does not have any favorites and is planning to attend games at Clemson and USC this fall.
USC commitment WR Shaq Davidson of Gaffney has accepted an invitation to play in the US Army All American Game January 4th in San Antonio.
