Javon Kinlaw recaps the other USC
Former South Carolina commitment Javon Kinlaw visited the other USC this weekend.
“The whole scenery, I’ve never seen anything like that,” Kinlaw said, during an interview with Phil Kornblut. “The buildings, the school, the campus, everything was great. I want to major in business marketing and they showed me the brand-new business building and all the facilities.
“They told me I’m the only JUCO guy they are recruiting, and normally when they recruit JUCO guys, they expect them to come in and play right away.”
Kinlaw, a 4-star defensive tackle at Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, Miss.), recently eliminated Alabama from consideration and will not take an official visit to Tuscaloosa.

South Carolina will host Kinlaw the final weekend of the month.
“It’s going to be tough,” Kinlaw said. “It’s a tough decision. I’m going to have to think about it. It’s just tough, that’s all.”

Four-star defensive end Brad Johnson (Pendleton, S.C.) has been to South Carolina about 10 times already, most recently for an official visit this past weekend.
Johnson was hosted by sophomore “Buck” D.J. Wonnum, but he spoke with several of the Gamecocks current players. For Johnson, getting to know players on the team is an important part of the recruiting process.
“I wouldn’t say the most important thing, but it’s one of the most important things,” Johnson said. “These are the guys I’d be around them 95 percent of the time and I’d be working with these guys. They’re going through, or have already gone through, what I would be going through when I got to school, and they know.
“They have the experience and can tell me not to do this or this could help, so I think that’s an important thing. Definitely an important thing to know those players and at least talk to them, get their input.”
Virginia Tech had him on campus last month and he’s no longer planning to visit Tennessee next weekend, according to Matt Connolly of The State.
Catching up with Culpepper
Three-star safety Naytron Culpepper continues to have contact with the coaches from South Carolina, but Maryland is the favorite. That’s according to an interview he gave to Luke Srodulski, who covers Michigan State for Landof10.com.
Culpepper visited Michigan State over the weekend. South Carolina had him on campus in the fall.
“I went when they were playing in a game,” he said. “I liked the atmosphere. It was real nice. They had a great game. I talked to coach (Travaris Robinson), coach Muschamp.
“They let me know they want me a lot and they want to start a pipeline.”
