Rhames will be with the Gamecocks Saturday
By Phil Kornblut / January 13, 2022
Sumter 2023 DE Montague Rhames (6-6 240) has a name, and a game, that really standout. Rhames was part of Sumter’s outstanding defense last season and totaled 70 tackles with 21 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. USC is among his offers at this point, and he plans to be on hand Saturday as Shane Beamer welcomes in some of his top ’23 targets for a junior day.
“They’ve been contacting my coaches and asking for my grades, things like that,” Rhames said. “I’m doing good. I was talking to Coach (Mike) Peterson but now it’s Shane Beamer and Taylor Edwards. They want me to be part of their defense, and they want me to stay home. They said I can be one of the best players to come out of USC.”
Rhames is planning to visit NC State later in the month, and he’s also looking at Virginia Tech and Louisville for visits in January. He went to games this past season at USC, Clemson, North Carolina and NC State.
Clemson has not yet offered Rhames but he was contacted by the Tigers last week.
“I was on the phone with Lemanski Hall,” Rhames said. “He said he’s going to get back at me. I’m waiting on that. That was kind of like my first phone call from a (Clemson) coach. When I went to their camp, Coach Hall said I did good. Coaches say they like how I get off the ball, and they like my strength. They say I’m a heck of a player.”
Rhames said he will eventually put out a list of favorite programs, but he’s not looking to make a decision until after his senior season.
USC coach Shane Beamer talked directly to Rhames on December 15th:
