Rick Sandidge sees 3 assistants & other recruiting news

January 17, 2018

Coaches see 4-star defensive tackle

Four-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge met with a trio of South Carolina assistant coaches on Monday, a day after he was on campus at Georgia for an official visit.

According to Phil Kornblut, Sandidge saw defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, defensive line coach Lance Thompson and running backs coach Bobby Bentley, who recruits Sandidge at Concord (N.C.) High School.

The group ate dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse.

“They were telling me what they can provide for me and what I can do for them, stuff like that,” Sandidge said. “I had a good time, had a fun time eating with them.”

How did the Georgia visit go?

“I can say I got a better relationship with Georgia after the visit,” he said. “I got more of a relationship with the players. And coach [Kirby] Smart was talking about I’m not a want; I’m a need, too.”

North Carolina will host him for an official visit this weekend. South Carolina is up the following weekend before he announces a decision on Signing Day.

Gamecocks send out offers

South Carolina’s coaches have dispensed at least three offers this week:

• 2020 CB Joshuah Moten — Fort Washington, Md.

The 6-foot, 165-pound prospect lists offers from Baylor, East Carolina, Maryland, Memphis, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Offensive line coach Eric Wolford stopped by National Christian Academy and relayed the news on behalf of Robinson.

“I don’t know much about S.C. I do know they just came off a win [against] Michigan, which is a great football school,” Moten said. “Also, Coach T-Rob has a proven track record with DBs and so did coach [Will] Muschamp.”

The Gamecocks could host him for a visit this weekend or next.

• 2019 OT William Harrod — Fort Washington, Md.

Wolford also was there to see Harrod, a 6-5, 305-pound offensive tackle with offers from Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, among others.

• 2019 WR Tayvion Robinson — Virginia Beach, Va.

Virginia Tech has already landed five selections on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, so the Hokies are clearly the early favorite. Duke, Maryland, Ohio State, Temple and Virginia have also offered.

• 2019 4-star CB Tayvion Land — Virginia Beach

Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU have also offered, but Virginia Tech is the favorite for Land, who does not attend the same school as Robinson.

• 2020 TE Dominic Mammarelli — Naples, Fla.

The Gamecocks were first to offer a scholarship to Mammarelli, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect who caught just 3 passes in a run-heavy offense at Naples High School.
