Safety JT Ibe set to check out Gamecocks this weekend

Rice graduate transfer safety JT Ibe makes his official visit to USC with his parents this weekend and soon after the visit he should be ready to decide where he will play his final season of football. He has visited Indiana and Kansas State, and Baylor has not entered the picture and could get some consideration. But this weekend is all about what the Gamecocks have to offer
“I just want to see practice. I want to see how their guys play. I want to see how Coach Muschamp and Coach T-Rob coach. I think those are the most important parts of the program along with their strength staff,” Ibe said. “Most of these visits they have a meeting with the academic adviser and I’ll get that done, too.”
Ibe said he’s been in regular contact with the two Gamecock coaches though neither has been blowing up his phone and over-recruiting him.
Ibe said Baylor has become a recent player with him. He’s not sure if he will visit there and will know that after his USC visit.
“After I visit South Carolina I feel like I’ll know what I want to do,” he said. “South Carolina is where my current coach coached with them (Muschamp and Robinson) for four years (at Florida), so good connection there.”
As for what his final decision will come down to, Ibe said the opportunity for playing time at the school he chooses will be key.
“For sure. Not even so much playing time, I want to come in and whether I have to compete or I don’t have to compete I want to come in and start, and I want to win as well,” Ibe said. “If winning means I have to compete with another guy for a starting spot, I’m willing to compete. That’s nothing to me.”
Ibe started 17 games during his career at Rice.
