Shi Smith
USC has been, and still is, the big leader for WR Shi Smith of Union County.  But the Gamecocks shouldn’t be expecting a commitment from Smith anytime soon.  In fact, he now plans to wait until after the season to finalize his plans.

“Right now I’m leaning towards Carolina,” said Smith who has Alabama and Oklahoma next on his list.  “If we were in January right now I would commit to Carolina.  My dad told me to wait it out and I usually pick up on what he says all the time.  Coach (Will) Muschamp said he’ll wait.”

Smith said he remains in regular contact with USC receivers coach Bryan McClendon who was by the school last Wednesday.  And he’s also talking with Bobby Bentley who is his actual Gamecock recruiter.

Alabama also visited his school last week and he’s also hearing regularly from Oklahoma recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr.

Smith said he doesn’t plan to attend any camps to work out because his coach discourages that but he’s planning to be at USC’s June 9th camp as an observer.

As far as the lead USC has over the others at this point, Smith said,  “It’s pretty far right now.”
