Samsung Phones and iPhones

I won't own an Apple product, and I don't know any good IT professionals who will.

Because your are IT, I'm curious as to why.
Well for me, it's several reasons. First and foremost, look past all of the branding and marketing terms like "retina display", and instead focus on the actual hardware you're getting for the price. You'll see that you're paying more for the Apple brand than you would be if you went with another brand.

Having to funnel everything from music to photos to movies through iTunes is also a turn off. I don't need proprietary software to move files from my computer to my android phone or vice versa.

Apple has a fit when you want to use software that did not come from their store. On my android phone, I can change a setting or two and run anything I want on it; it's even easier on a computer running either Windows or Linux.

More than all of that though is the feeling of power I have on Linux, Windows, and Android. (Android is basically a modded version of Linux though.) With those operating systems, I can customize and do just about anything I want to do. That isn't the case with the Mac OS. There's this "Apple knows best" thing with those products that just does not sit right with me.

You don't have to use itunes exclusively for that, there options for file xfer of video, audio and such.

I just hate the fact for the same money that a phone costs to fit in my pocket, I can purchase a 70" TV and hang it on the wall.

Android does have more flexibility and customizability as CokyO said. But that come with security risks for folks that don't know they are doing. iphones are generally considered more secure (though nothing is 100% secure). Apple controls the hardware and software and can provide a more integrated experience the trade off being the Android phones have lots of manufactures that give you a ton more hardware and feature options.

In the end I think it just comes down to individual preference. I use iPhones but don't buy them at full price. I buy refurbished phones that are a couple of years old as I don't need the latest features, and it saves me a bundle.

I consider myself a good IT professional and I own an iPad. I only have it because the non-IT people at my work have a hard-on for using iPads and I have to make sure my software works on that platform.

That is unfortunate for you.

The security risk is a thing of the past. They are outpacing windows
