Clarke Schmidt (Acworth, Ga./Allatoona), committed to South Carolina Wednesday night and becoming the sixth high school pitcher in the Gamecocks’ class.
Schmidt picked South Carolina over offers or heavy interest from Georgia, Ole Miss, Clemson, and Auburn. He visited Columbia on February 10 and quickly fell in love with the program.
Schmidt is a right-handed pitcher and middle infielder for Allatoona High School. He will get an opportunity to do both for the Gamecocks but his long-term future is likely to be on the mound.
