Scouting USC signee Wildens Leveque: ‘High motor guy that’s really good defensively’

May 10, 2019

Wildens Leveque is scheduled to arrive in Columbia on May 29 to begin his South Carolina basketball career.

What are the Gamecocks getting in the 6-foot-10, 225-pound center from Gould Academy in Maine? The State asked both Leveque and Gould coach Cory McClure for a preview. (READ MORE)

"Rim protector, rebounder, finisher around the rim..."

That's exactly what we need in a big man, and exactly what we have been missing more of, minus Silva. This kid does these things, and he won't see Coach Martin's Crazy Face very often, I can guarantee you.....

The thing that I see most missing in Leveque is him leaving his feet and elevating.  He's 6'10", so he can get to the ball easily, but he's got to distinguish himself by getting ABOVE the rim and grabbing the ball.  His shooting looks great, but I'd like to see him work hard on the elevation in rebounding AND in shooting.  If he gets a little more air under his feet... he'll be a beast in every aspect of his game.  (And yes... getting that little bit of extra "oomph" in leaping IS something that can be taught and improved upon).  But I like what I'm seeing so far.
