UPDATED 4:30 p.m. ET: A few new updates in the motorcycle accident involving Bobby Petrino:

Local news outlets report that Petrino is expected to make a full recovery and should be out of the hospital some time today. However, sources told ArkansasSports360 that the coach was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. It’s still not entirely clear how the accident occurred, but Petrino’s motorcycle was found about 20 yards from the road.

An official police report hasn’t been immediately available, but could be ready later this week.

Unfortunately, there’s some scary news coming out of Arkansas this morning as coach Bobby Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening.

Reported by multiple Arkansas media outlets and confirmed by police this morning, it appears the accident took place at approximately 6:45 yesterday evening in Madison County. Petrino was transported to a local hospital and remained hospitalized overnight.

“Arkansas State Police was notified of a single vehicle motor vehicle crash along Highway 16 in Madison County near the Crosses community about 6:45 last night (Sunday),” read a police statement. “The crash involved a motorcycle that had left the roadway. Coach Petrino was the operator of the motorcycle. He was transported to a Washington County medical facility.”

All other details at this moment are scarce, although Petrino is said to be the only one involved in the accident. ESPN’s Joe Schad tweeted later this morning that Petrino’s injuries are “not life threatening.” The coach is “pretty banged up” a source told Schad, but added that Petrino “will recover.”

Another source told Thomas Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that Petrino has multiple broken ribs, “all kind of cuts and bruises” and a neck sprain, but that the coach was going to be okay.

Arkansas is expected to release a statement shortly.

Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino will be released from the hospital on Tuesday and has been cleared by doctors to return to practice, according to Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long.

Petrino was hospitalized on Sunday night after crashing his motorcycle near the community of Crosses in Northwest Arkansas. He suffered four broken ribs, an injury to the C2 vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises in the one-vehicle accident.

"I enjoy going out there and riding the bike," Petrino said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon after being released from the hospital. "I was just going out on a Sunday night, after dinner, for a short ride. I had been in that area before, but I usually stop at Elkins High School and turn around and come back. I went a little further. It's something that really puts a scare in you. I can't say that I'm not going to ride a motorcycle again, because I might do that.

Petrino was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. People over the age of 21 in the state of Arkansas are not required to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.

"I had two helmets out," said Petrino. "I said 'this one is going to be really heavy and hot, and this one is going to make me look like a Conehead. I'll just go with the hat.' Obviously, a bad call."
