Seventh Woods decides on Gamecocks

June 07, 2019

Former Hammond star guard Seventh Woods, who was a little used reserve in three seasons at North Carolina, has enrolled at USC and will join the team this fall as a walk-on according to GamecockCentral. Woods posted a two-second Instagram video that flashed his picture on a USC ID and included the caption, “USC ’20”.

The Gamecocks do not have an available scholarship for this season, thus Woods would have to join the program as a walk-on. He also will have to sit out the season under NCAA transfer rules as he is not a graduate transfer.

Woods was a high school sensation at Hammond with a highlight tape of high-flying dunks that was viewed millions of times. Woods committed to North Carolina in November of 2015 choosing the Tar Heels over the Gamecocks and Georgetown. But what was viewed in high school never was seen in Chapel Hill.

He played in 94 games over his three seasons with the Tar Heels. Injuries slowed him some, but the accumulation of talent by Roy Williams had more to do with the lack of floor time. This past season was his most productive with Woods averaging 10.8 minutes and 2.5 points per game. He shot 42% from the floor and 64% from the line.

Woods will take one of the scholarships vacated by the Gamecocks’ two seniors after this season. There’s also the expectation that guard AJ Lawson will leave for the NBA after his sophomore season opening a spot for Woods on the wing.

My excitement level for the bball team just shot up.

He will be a nice back up for the points we have and also we have coming in. He will give our bench good depth there. He may be the starter but we have some kids that has been in the system that may play more. No matter, he is a very good addition.

He is a national champion.  He knows how to win!

EXCELLENT pickup, I am very excited about this!
