I’m really keeping my fingers crossed on this one.  Since Coach Martin actively recruited Seventh, he knows what he’s getting.  I think Seventh could be a Devan Downey type of player (though probably not as high scoring).  Someone who electrifies the crowds and brings leadership abilities.  Seventh Woods, in my estimation, would be a HUGE grab for the Gamecocks, and I hope he can return to Columbia as a Gamecock.

I am with you.  This team could use some veteran leadership next year.  Gonna have a lot of young guns.

Twitter is a buzz that he is coming to Carolina. Vizor posted it about 30 minutes ago.

Yesterday, Wes Mitchell reported this: "A source confirmed to Gamecock Central that Woods is set to join the South Carolina men's basketball team as a walk-on."

Thanks for the heads up J2k!

Prior to getting Henry added to the team as a graduate transfer, I was hesitant on Woods joining. I knew he would have to red-shirt, and was afraid he'd take the final open scholarship, when the team needed depth inside after losing Silva and Haase. At the time I wasn't thinking that Woods would accept being a walk-on.

But it played out perfectly: we got Henry to add mature, experienced depth at the rim in a position of need, and we also get Woods as well - he can be a walk-on for his one red-shirt year, and then play in 2020-21 as a scholarship player.

Unless we have more attrition after this season, we'll have 2 available scholarships for the 2020 class. Kotsar and Henry will graduate, and Lawson would most likely depart for the NBA after next season. Woods will take one of those 3 spots when he comes off his red-shirt year, and is given a scholarship for his final season.

Believe it or not, it's not out of the question that Seventh would simply continue as a walk-on his final season.  We'll see how everything plays out with class of 2020 recruiting.

That would be optimal, if it happened. We have some good prospects for the 2020 season our staff is getting in position with. It would be great to be able to take advantage of that....
