Shane Beamer should be SEC Coach of the year? Why not?

First of all never would of thought it back in August.  Shane Beamer should be SEC Coach of the year? Why not? Who is a better candidate  in your mind?

But preaching optimism, Beamer breathed life into an otherwise listless program that had won just six games over its last two seasons. The former Oklahoma and Georgia assistant told reporters Sunday he liked a handful of the cards he was dealt in Columbia. The defensive line could be elite. Secondary pieces like Jaylan Foster and Cam Smith felt primed for breakout seasons.

Quarterback would be a question, to some degree. But a quartet of talented tailbacks gave the Gamecocks enough offensive options to play with. Preseason prognosticators gave South Carolina little, if any, benefit of the doubt. The Gamecocks were picked to finish ahead of only Vanderbilt in the SEC East. Most national outlets slotted USC’s projected win total somewhere around three or four.

With one game remaining against Clemson, South Carolina is 6-5 overall, 5-1 at home, bowl-eligible and playing with more house money than could be lost by even the most mediocre of gamblers. “Shane Beamer leading South Carolina to wins over Auburn and Florida in Year 1 is one of the biggest upsets of this wild 2021 season,” Sports Illustrated national college football reporter Ross Dellenger posted to Twitter on Saturday night.

Beamer spoke at length Sunday evening about the increasing pressure on head coaches in this modern day and age. So far, 14 FBS head coaching jobs have come open. Two SEC schools  LSU and Florida  are seeking new coaches. Take Dan Mullen as the preeminent example of modern-day college football. Mullen brought Mississippi State to heights it had rarely, if ever, seen during its decades-long football history. He parlayed that success into the head coaching gig at Florida, where he went 34-15 and reached the SEC title game a season ago.

Well, let's first saying that I was the only one on this board that had said they were going to beat Florida and Auburn and they might struggle against Missouri , People laughed made fun of me when I said at start  of  the  season this team would get 6  wins maybe  7 .   With that said I had mentioned that if that would happen he should be SEC coach of the year.  There is no reason for them not to make him Coach of the year right now.

Sam Pittman  may have some more supporting cast than Beamer but I don't think so.  I was at the game Saturday night what I  was an bunch of kids who would not quit  I think sometimes South Carolina has played way better at home than on the road for whatever reason .  I thought the fans we're not going to  show up  I was in the stadium about 40 minutes before kick off,  I think  they have helped themselves big time in the process with kids that are now in the portal.

I believe that next season will be magical, if they get some more help.  I saw an offensive coordinator grow up and made some good play calls, I have too been an little skeptical at times but I believe that if the D plays lights out 1 more time or can shut down the tigers it can be an win, but Clemson seems to have come together as they always do.  I will reserve my prediction for later in the week.  As I gather some more insight.

If Beamer and the Gamecocks can get a win vs. the taters, the fan base will be pretty damn excited.  Myself included.  I think CSB is a legit candidate for SEC coach of the year.

The biggest thing Shane has done this year has been to eliminate the divisions in the locker room that had surely popped up during the losing seasons while staying positive at the same time.

I was not able to watch the Auburn game on TV, so I listened to Todd and Tommy on the radio.

I turned the game off after the second Auburn TD in the first quarter and did not turn it back on until I googled the score with about 7 minutes left in the game.

Most rebuilds begin with the defense and I believe Coach White will have the defense where it needs to be by the middle of next season.

The offense, however, is a different matter.  I don't know where the dividing line is between the coaches and players, but Shane HAS to figure out how to make our offense more productive than it has been this season.

I feel pretty good about Shane's ability to turn the program around, but I didn't think we had the horses in the barn on offense to score enough points to come back if Auburn was able to put 14 more points on the board by halftime or the end of the 3rd quarter; that's why I turned the game off after Auburn went up 14-0 on us.

I am certainly glad we are bowl-eligible and have a shot at beating Clemson, but we still have a long way to go to be a consistently better team.

You missed a heck of a comeback. It was 14-14 at the half .

Coach of the year is a stretch but he has exceeded expectations of most.  Still need to close out the year playing competitive smart football.  We will be out talented but can overcome that as seen Sat night.

It's a tough year for SEC COY because of the success of UGA and to a lesser extent, Arky and Ole Miss. But if we can beat the Taters, to quote the bard (Keith Jackson), "Whoa Nellie ..."

I was watching SEC now this morning they had Shane on. Very good segment  really enjoyed seeing getting some pub, they talked about him as a possible SEC coach of the year award.

Smart would be first IMO, then Kifen then Beamer.

You can’t deny an undefeated team. And Kiffen should be In there. Not taking anything away from Beamer but he isn’t the best coach in the SEC.

Changed my tune on Pittman, he and a Beamer probably  neck and neck for third.
