Shane Beamer: Sunday Night Conference Calls Quotes and Audio (Zeb Noland will be our starting quarterback this week at Texas A&M)"

Oct. 17, 2021

On Sunday, head coach Shane Beamer held his weekly teleconference with the media to reflect on the improbable victory and to glance ahead to Saturday’s road trip to Texas A&M. During the call, Beamer announced that Doty reinjured his foot in the win and that Noland will once again start for the Gamecocks. Noland led Carolina to wins over Eastern Illinois and East Carolina to open the season.

Taking over for starting QB Luke Doty, the graduate transfer led the Gamecocks on an eight-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a game winning touchdown pass to Xavier Legette, which lifted USC to a 21-20 victory over the Commodores. In the process, recording the program’s 100th SEC victory since joining the league in 1992.

  • Beamer: on Marshawn Lloyd, he's beat up with a little bit of an ankle issue. Same with Zaquandre White. "We hope all those guys will be able to go this week."
  • Beamer: "Luke Doty reinjured his foot and he's iffy for this Saturday. Zeb Noland will be our starting quarterback this week at Texas A&M."
  • Shane Beamer: "A lot to improve on and a lot to correct from last night. When you turn the ball over four times, it's going to be hard to win football games. We gave them 17 points off turnovers and still found a way to win the game.
  • Beamer: "At the end of the day, it's a win. Our kids work way too hard during the week and 365 days a year to not celebrate every win."
  • Beamer; says his team is beat up (injury wise) coming out of the game. Jaylen Dickerson has an ankle sprain, he's "iffy" for this week. Kevin Harris has a "little bit of an ankle, but we think he'll be fine."
  • Beamer: says Noland's workload won't change much at all for this week as the starter. He's been competing with Luke for that job each week.
  • Beamer: not happy with the 10 penalties against Vanderbilt, but easier to deal with because the majority weren't pre-snap penalties.
  • Beamer: says he's not getting more frustrated with the offense for a lack of scoring. "I look at the explosives we created last night. We had 10 explosive plays last night. I'm not saying 21 points is enough, it's not. We've got to be able to score points more consistently.
