OK not trying to start a fight here, just expressing a concern. I noticed the posting of start times for the first 3 games. Game 1 Eastern Michigan @ 7PM on E$PN+/SEC+. Now at first look I thought is was going to be either E$PN or SEC but then I noticed the +. So the first game in Shane Beamer's career here at Carolina will be a Pay-for-View. Look $5.99 will not kill most of us. That's not my issue. Any time you mess with E$PN/DISNEY and their desire for money you better watch your back.
Lets say this little project works out for E$PN and SEC, then what? Magic dollars are hard to find these days, so why would they not do it again? Maybe just the games against smaller schools but if it that works what about big games maybe only two per year, say UGA and CU. Yes that's a lot of speculation, but who would have though the U of SC would do that to Coach Beamer's first game ever a a head coach at USC.
I know just go and get a free trial or just sign up for the one game. My guess is that's what E$PN is hoping because that proves the theory. If they want it bad enough they will find a way.
I don't know what the total fan base is for the Gamecocks but minus the fans at WB its a lot. There are reasons its a lot, fans cannot afford the game day experience anymore, price, pandemic, etc . So why would the athletic dept add insult to injury by asking them to pay to watch this game or any other? Fans that sit at home pay a premium for satellite, cable, streaming TV service, wifi , and sports packages to get all the games. Now this.
As I told Ray Tanner in an e-mail I know I am in the minority here but this is a warning shot to all fans, in all conference's, all over the country. E$PN is putting your loyalty to your school against your wallet. By the way E$PN/DISNEY never loses.
Thanks guys. Again I could be just way off in left field but this seem so wrong to a long time Gamecock fan and yes I spent the 80's and 90's tailgating and sitting in the stands and going to bowl games.
