USC offensive line coach Shawn Elliott is in play for the newly vacant job at Appalachian State. Elliott, an Appalachian State alumnus, was reportedly in Boone Sunday to interview for the post vacated when Jerry Moore stepped down following the Mountaineers playoff loss this weekend.
Steve Spurrier confirmed Elliott is a candidate for the App State job at the Gamecocks bowl announcement presser Sunday. Spurrier said would fully support Elliott if he opted to take over the FCS program.
However, Elliott may not be a slam dunk to get an offer or land the job in Boone. Moore is 72 years old and knew he was close to retiring. With that in mind, Mountaineers offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Scott Satterfield has been considered by many to be the front runner to take over the program.
Elliott is a Camden native and played defensive end for the Mountaineers and coached there before taking over the USC offensive line three seasons ago.
