Wide receiver Shawn Smith (Brunswick, Ga.) committed to South Carolina, as first-reported by 247Sports.com.
Gamecocks wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon hauled in the talented athlete.
"Coach McClendon and me are real close," Smith said. "He's been recruiting me real hard since he was at Georgia. South Carolina is a better fit for me. It's close to home but not too far away. They said I could play slot and own it. They said they are signing four wide receivers this year and they need me to play right away."
The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 33 athlete and the No. 46 prospect in Georgia in the 2017 class by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings.
Smith, who has 13 offers, chose the Gamecocks over Miami.
He said he still plans to officially visit Miami, South Carolina, West Virginia and Mississippi State.
Smith is the seventh verbal commit in the 2017 class for South Carolina.
