Social media roasts Shane Beamer and South Carolina’s play-calling vs UT Vols

Not playing well is a tough thing to deal with in college football. Appearing to not know what you're doing is inexcusable.

— @sapakoff (@Sapakoff) October 9, 2021

In that situation, considering how the offense was moving, that might have been the two worst play calls I've ever seen. #Gamecocks

— SportsTalk Media Network (@sportstalksc) October 9, 2021

And Tennessee goes right down the field and scores, Hooker runs in from 11 yards out, the #Gamecocks defense obviously stunned over the stupidity of the play calling by their offense just moments ago.

— SportsTalk Media Network (@sportstalksc) October 9, 2021

I am still stunned over those two play calls by the #Gamecocks. What could they have been thinking? Offensive line was doing its job, the I-formation was working well, Harris was running hard. As a coaching staff, you don't believe you can get a yard on four tries?

— SportsTalk Media Network (@sportstalksc) October 9, 2021

I hate saying this, but in one quarter of football today, It is obvious that Shane Beamer is in wayyyyyyy over his head.

— KyDerbyJay (@KyDerbyJay) October 9, 2021

I’m beginning to think this “Hey, let’s do something crazy and catch them off guard” is just who Shane Beamer is. If so, 5 wins is our ceiling for the foreseeable future. #Gamecocks

— Ken Sirmans (@KenSirmans) October 9, 2021

Somebody in the Vols staff gave Marcus satterfield a bag of McDonald’s full of money. This offense is ATROCIOUS

— Noah (@HighSouth2) October 9, 2021

Ithink we get the point here.

We all know it was a beyond head scratching set of play calls. Made even worse by UT marching down the field to score.

but I don’t know if a thread like this is even needed. It’s obvious fans are not happy right now.

Marshawn Lloyd's body language on the sideline after the trick play pick says it all.

Dude was livid.

We have some great RBs stuck behind a bad OL.  Would not be surprised if we lose a couple to the portal at the end of the season if the OL issues don't get fixed.

Looks like Shirley and the kids will have to play the honky-tonks in Bakersfield to make some money for the repairs while Earl the mechanic tries to get their love bus fixed so they can get back home.

Stay tuned for scenes from next week's episode.

You might be right. Thread like this. I think we all had enough pain here to last years. I myself, going to wait and and see how the season closes out. Really to early here to judge. Seems fans want instant satisfaction. Just looks cloudy, fans need little something to hang the old hate on. Watching Kentucky knocking the sunt out of LSU.  for those who care 14-0 Kentucky. Hang in there folks I am a oldie Gamecock fan, I am on the down side really doubt I see the promise land, Lot of other things to enjoy in life,

Guess this best sums it up: No one expected the Gamecocks to be world-beaters in 2021. Beamer inherited a program that’s won six games since 2019. USC hasn’t finished better than 4-4 in the SEC since 2018.

This fall was always going to be a work in progress. Saturday’s first half showed how much work remains to be done.

Agree I have not commented because the raw reaction immediately after a loss is never a good one for me.   This program has been mediocre most of its existence with a few bright runs here and there.  I am not really sure how you turn that around.   Spurrier in my opinion is top 5 probably top 3 college coaches ever.   We were lucky to get him, but I am not sure how you get another proven high level coach to come to a program with a history like ours.

This is what brought out the out cry on Social media today. If Burch makes the play Beamer and staff our geniuses and the Game is a whole lot closer. Not going to hang him or staff. Just the way it worked out this time.

When the Gamecocks got down around the end zone, coaches wanted to work down the play sheet to Burch’s pass. But instead of igniting social media ablaze for its creativity, it resulted in an interception. Five plays later, Tennessee added its third touchdown of the day. Two minutes and 16 seconds after the pick, the Vols strutted into the first quarter break with a 28-0 lead.

Excellent post.  The only thing I will add is that we also have an unproven HC and staff, along with some new players, cutting their teeth this season.  Shane is going to pay his dues as a new HC from this point forward and I believe he will prove out much sooner than most others would.

I agree that we needed to score then, one way or the other.  After the play was over, the ESPN guys calling the game said that the lack of a run game may have forced Shane to call such a risky play.  That's the basic truth here.  If we had executed the play, I don't believe it would have affected the outcome that much.

Our team's personality right now is we get shelled in the first half because of poor defense and then can't score enough points in the second half to make up for it.  That's the way it was in 2014, except Spurrier could dial up enough offense to give us something of a chance.  But then Ward's defense totally went to crap.

What's different this time around is that Shane is a new coach out to prove himself rather than having one foot in the retirement pasture like Spurrier did.

The odds makers run each game through probability models thousands of times on a computer.  I am just going to take that unemotional approach as a fan this season.  Don't watch the games until we do something to beat the odds.

Having said that, Shane and Coach White prevented this from being a total rout in the second half and at least stopped the bleeding.  I still feel good about White and I don't see that changing.  I just can't say the same about Satt and that's alarming at this point in the season.  Shane needs to micromanage him and his staff (which I believe Shane has avoided up to this point) to fix.  If he doesn't, then I don't see us getting anymore wins except for maybe Vandy and/or Mizzou this season.

Last week Shane complained about lack of Fans in the stands. Does he really expect better this week, after that performance. Go Coastal.

But, there is no excuse for the offensive line play.  They look like a group of guys that were pulled from the stands right before the game and told to go suit up.

Being fair week and the lack of enthusiasm and it being Vanderbilt. Well be a whole lot of empty seats. Only thing to enjoy is the tailgating then head home or go to the fair. Sad but that is reality as a Gamecock fan the last 3 or 4 years now.

Yeah I hear you but hard to make chicken salad with chicken shit. But maybe another OC might do a better job, But still be where we are until somehow someway we can get some descent talent here or coach or two. After saying that I look at Kentucky and there recruiting for the most part pretty much even talent wise and will be playing for lone 1st place instead of tied when they face off Saturday against the Dawgs. Let me add Gamecocks have lost a lot of talent VI the portal or going pro early

Back to the OP, uh-ruh, social media...

Both videos bring tears to my eyes, but for different reasons.  LOL

Get a load of the UK fans' hypocrisy about us roasting Beamer on the TAMU thread.  Stoops has UK at the same level Spurrier had us because he's a good coach, but if his teams played like they looked uncoached on game day like ours have the last several seasons they would feel the same way and he would be gone.

What move did TAMU make with Sumlin when his teams started playing like ours?  Right.

How much longer will Gamecock fans have to listen to this self-righteous crap from a bunch of Kentucky hillbillies?

It's Homecoming week, but fans are coming back to watch a team that doesn't look like it's coached on Saturdays.  It's been this way across multiple staffs with one AD as the constant.

I believe Shane will be different, but we're just not there yet.  It's less stressful to just not watch the games until things change.

We would have run him off in year 3.  Everyone needs to calm down and Shane at least have a chance to see what he can do.

Yep.  I am not saying Beamer is the answer, but I do know it is way too early to say he is not.  Hell we've only had 1 or 2 answers in 100+ years.

Well,  all I can say is that when you go looking for an staff and the University doesn't give you the monies for top notch assistant coaches you have an hard row .    The University is or does not have the monies needed to go get the best coaching hell they don't even wont to pay Staley.

The talent is not there you can talk all you want  to about coaching but the talent is just now there in the QB position , as well as the receivers and O Line . People are saying it's coaching it's an little bit of everything if you don't have the big dudes up front you cannot run the ball.  The schemes may be an little too much for this group it's all about communication on the O line.

I could be wrong but the O line was on the sidelines when Tennessee scored , so we left our best cover  guy at home.

You can say all you want about these guys last year they were o.k. nothing great, an running back who did most of it on his own . They say if you don't have the Jimmie and Joe's you can't play the X and O's .  All I can say if you are an 5 star an want to come  play now,   South Carolina is the place for you.

100 years of mostly loosing in football that's what the Board at South Carolina is about I remember when the off was made to Shane's dad it was kept real quite they didn't have the monies then they don't have it now . You want to play with the big boys then get the x players to give some monies to go get him the best of the best coaching staff, someone who is an O.C. GUY we need more big time coaches as well.

He's learning and will get better.  Maybe he makes some staff changes if these types of things are going on in a year or two but not now.  Crazy talk.  Give the man a chance.  He's almost the total opposite end of the spectrum from Spurrier and may very well grow into a great HC if given time to learn, take his lumps and improve.  Everyone wants immediate gratification but it won't happen here.  We don't have the talent and have to take chances on an unproven rookie coach because it's no destination job for more proven ones.  The plays were dumb and I'm sure he knows that now and will grow from it as a HC.  Patience will be needed with him and his teams for a while.
