What I took from yesterday's full team drills, which got cut about 15 minutes shorter than usual
-Ace Sanders looked great in the drills leading up to the 11-on-11's, but I didn't see him on the field much during the actual full team drills. He's poised for a great season, he looks quicker, more elusive, more confident, and has shown great hands this spring.
-I think the coaches already have Brandon Shell penciled in to be a starter at one of the tackle spots, I don't think they have decided which spot yet as he rotates between the left side and the right side in practice, but he is always on the field at one of the spots. I don't know if he has missed a snap during 11-on-11's and if he has it's only been a handful.
-TJ Johnson was out there yesterday's and was working a good bit at the RG position with Kyle Harris at C. It's actually refreshing that we have enough talented depth in the spring now on the OL to experiment with moves like this. Some springs it has felt like we struggled to put a starting 5 out there.
-Connor Shaw looked pretty sharp in limited action. Early on he hit DeAngelo Smith for a 30-35 yard gain, where Smith made a very impressive catch as Brison Williams and Jimmy Legree converged on him. On the very next play Damiere Byrd got behind Legree and Shaw hit him in stride about 40 yards downfield. It's been pretty rare to see Legree get beat like that this spring, but I don't think he gave up another catch the rest of practice.
-Byron Jerideau felt the wrath of Brad Lawing for jumping offsides on a simulated 3rd down, but rebounded a couple of plays later when he and Clowney swallowed Brandon Wilds in the backfield for lost yardage. Jerideau has really stepped up this spring and cemented a spot as a starter on a very talented DL.
-The defense looks like they are chomping at the bit for contact. Bruce Ellington got a pretty good shot laid on him by Edward Muldrow immediately after catching an intermediate pass.
-I'm really high on Kelvin Rainey's ability to be a weapon in this offense. Although he had a drop today, he consistently gets open and I really feel like he's a big play waiting to happen.
