South Carolina football: 5 things I want to see Saturday at Tennessee

Oct. 24, 2019

Brace yourselves for a tight game on Rocky Top. The history of series reflects a game within a touchdown, the betting line is South Carolina favored by 4 points, and the Gamecocks haven’t blown anyone out this year save for Charleston Southern and a Kentucky team with major quarterback issues.

While he didn’t want to discuss it Tuesday, coach Will Muschamp has his best coaching mark against Tennessee. Muschamp is 7-0 record against Tennessee as a head coach. He was 4-0 as the head coach at Florida, 3-0 with the Gamecocks. The 7 wins are the most Muschamp has against any opponent.

Here are 5 things I want to see Saturday at Tennessee: (VIEW ARTICLE)

The running game without Rico Dowdle
I think we'll be ok there. Feaster has proven to be more than capable, and Denson has rarely disappointed.

A consistent down-field passing game
I disagree. What we need to be doing is setting up the short to intermediate passing game. We had entirely too much emphasis on the long ball against UF, and the inconsistencies in that part of our offensive repertoire cost us. Gain first downs, and try for the long ball when the situation is right for it.

Will officiating play a role?
If the conspiracy theory is correct in that the SEC protects its top teams, we should be OK here. Neither of us threaten to impose ourselves on the CFP or the New Year's Day bowls for that matter.

Can Parker White make a key kick?
He has before vs UGA. Why would we begin doubting his ability now?

D.J. Wonnum looking for a 3rd big game vs. Vols
Eh - who knows? Perhaps they focus on him and make Kinlaw's day. Or perhaps they focus on Kinlaw and make somebody else's day. It' a no-win scenario for the Vols on that front. Either way getting pressure to their QB? should be the goal.

As far as the running game without Rico...

Might be interesting to see what Deshaun Fenwick can do. Champ said he might play. He is a RS Freshman that will be part of our future with Harris. It would be great for him to get some playing time. It would be awesome if he can bust it open like Kevin did.

A passing game period. It has to exist to take the pressure off the RBs and to keep the defense guessing.

Agree 100% with these two!
