South Carolina football preview: Options aplenty at tight end

July 26, 2017

With arguably the best tight end in the SEC, there may not be a position on the South Carolina roster that’s in better hands.

Junior Hayden Hurst was tabbed by the media for the preseason All-SEC second-team. The former minor league baseball player made a case for the first-team with his impressive play in 2016.

Last season, Hurst caught 48 passes for 616 yards, both of which were second among Gamecocks pass catchers. He wasn’t the only tight end who was productive under first-year coach Will Muschamp.

K.C. Crosby finished tied for the team-high with 4 touchdown receptions. Over 13 games, nine of which he started, Crosby finished fourth with 23 catches for 217 yards. Jacob August (5 catches, 52 yards) and Kiel Pollard (1 catch, 18 yards) helped provide depth at tight end.

All are back in 2017. They’re set to be joined by Evan Hinson, Kyle Markway and 2017 signee Will Register.
